Ternate Church Ternate Church Ternate Church
Cavite Ternate 138
Also called Sto. Niño de Ternate Parish, Ternate Church is known for the original Sto. Niño statue brought by the first settlers who arrived from Ternate Island, in Moluccas, eastern Indonia. The town of Ternate was named after this island. The image, which devotees consider to be miraculous, is believed to have healing powers and is responsible for sparing the town from natural disasters over the years. The parish was established by Jesuit missionaries in 1663, but the first stone church was not built until 1692. The original building was destroyed during the Philippine Revolution in the late 1800s. Only the Sto. Niño statue survived, which secured its reputation for performing miracles. Built in the 1900s, the current church has a modest gray facade and a four-storey belfry.

Mabakaw River
2.33 km away

Mabakaw River is a deep and narrow gorge sandwiched in between two rock formations. The shallower parts of the river are popular swimming spots to local residents. The deeper areas are almost inaccessible due to the strong current and steep walls. The river bottlenecks down a narrower gorge where a bridge called Tulay Baba is found. During summer, nipa huts are built along the river, to be rented out to visitors. During rainy season, however, these huts are washed down to flash floods, only to be rebuilt the following summer.

Maragondon Church
2.42 km away

Maragondon Church is one of the 26 oldest churches in the Philippines. The church was built by Jesuits in 1618, after its patron saint Our Lady of Assumption. Unique to its design is its intricate retablo and carved entrance doors. The church also has an attached Spanish convento, which was built in 1666. The church is a Historical and Cultural Site, declared by the National Museum and the National Historical Institute.

Emiliano Riego de Dios Ancestral House
2.63 km away

This ancestral house marks the home of Emiliano Riego de Dios, a member of the Katipunan, which is an underground anti-Spanish group that set the Philippine-Spanish Revolution. Emiliano fought in the revolution together with his brothers Colonel Vicente and General Mariano. He was also elected the Minister of War during the Tejeros Convention in 1897; the Military Governor of Cavite in 1898; and Vice President of the Hong Kong Council in 1898. Following the Filipino bahay na bato, the ancestral house was originally made of wood and adobe. It is now a private residential area, and can only be seen from the outside.
