General Trias Church General Trias Church General Trias Church General Trias Church
Built in 1769 under the leadership of a wealthy haciendera, General Trias Church (St. Francis of Assisi Parish) exhibits the earthquake baroque architecture common among Spanish period churches in the Philippines. The current facade, reconstructed in 1881, closely resembles the Augustinian church of Santa Lucia in Ilocos Sur. Historians say this is because the Augustinians owned the local hacienda at the time and helped its secular priests in rebuilding the facade. The church convent was where a local marching band practiced the Marcha Filipina, which later became the music of the Philippine national anthem, before it was performed in the 1898 Declaration of Independence in Kawit. The four-story belfry houses three antique church bells including one that was made in 1846. Displayed on the church grounds is a sculpture of St. Francis of Assisi carved out of a century-old acacia tree that was uprooted by a strong typhoon in 2006.
Open: Everyday, 6am – 5pm. Takes about 15mins to explore.

Tanza Church (Holy Cross Parish)
3.08 km away

Tanza Church, officially known as the Holy Cross Parish, secured its place in Philippine history on March 23, 1897. On that day, General Emilio Aguinaldo and General Mariano Trias took their oaths as President and Vice-President of the Philippine Revolutionary Government in the parish convent adjoining the church. General Artemio Ricarte was also inducted here as Capitan General of the revolutionary forces. Declared as a National Historical Landmark, the convent has a life-size exhibit depicting Aguinaldo and his men being sworn in before a crucifix. The three original church bells, albeit cracked and broken, are also on display outside the convent.

Casa Tribunal (Tribunal ng Noveleta)
4.64 km away

Located behind Noveleta Town Hall, Casa Tribunal bears an important landmark in Cavite's history. In 1896, the Magdiwang, a faction of the anti-Spanish Katipunan, killed Spanish authorities in this hall. Magdiwang General Pascual Alvarez killed Guardia Civil Captain Antonio Rebolledo. The Guardia Civil Lieutenant Francisco Naval Ayudante was also killed, while the rest of the Guardia Civil were imprisoned. This event further intensified the Philippine Revolution in Cavite. Over the century, Casa Tribunal served various purposes for the government. It was once the office of Spanish government in Noveleta, then turned into the Magdiwang's office after its capture. Thereafter, the hall served as a post office, a library, a makeshift classroom, and an office to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). It now serves as a temporary office to the Mayor's League. Inside you'll find portraits of Noveleta's previous mayors, and a Filipino-Spanish battle painting entitled "Tulay na Kalero".

Kawit Town Hall (Old Tribunal)
7.02 km away

Beside St. Mary Magdalene Church once stood the old town hall of Kawit, site of a short but significant attack by Filipino revolutionaries that sparked the uprising in Cavite. On the afternoon of August 31, 1896, Emilio Aguinaldo and Candido Tirona led a group of fighters in storming the seat of government and seizing guns from the Guardia Civil. The attack, now known as the Kawit Revolt, was capped off with the raising of the Magdalo flag at the town hall. A new municipal building with a pink facade now stands in place of the old town hall but the National Historical Commission has placed a marker on the front wall indicating the historical significance of the site. A few meters from the building is a statue of Candido Tirona. He served as the Secretary of War of the Katipunans Magdalo Council. Tirona died in the famed Battle of Binakayan barely three months after the Kawit Revolt.
