After a minor hitch, we started our tour of Alfonso. The town also had a cool breeze being another one of Tagaytay’s neighbors in the highlands of Cavite.

Kampo Trexo

Our first stop was a camp situated in the middle of the town, surrounded by the vast natural beauties of the mountain. A wide land of forests, trails, and obstacle courses greeted our arrival. We were received and toured by Mr. Dodi Principe, program officer.

Guiltless Getaways

Basically, the camp offers mountaineering and basic outdoor survival training for children and adults alike. We walked through the trail around the whole area while we were educated with the ins and outs of the business.

Shining Mom

During our excursion, a large group of teenage students was going through the different courses and trails around the camp. We found out that the educational trips like the one we came across, often extend overnight spent in the many campsites under the stars. That fact actually sparked a bit of curiosity and envy from us, since we thought it to be a worthy experience.

Island Rose

It was a little unfortunate that we arrived at Island Rose just a couple of weeks before Valentine's. They were preparing for hearts day and couldn’t show us all of their facilities. Island Rose is a farm of roses and other flowering plants.

They have vast covered greenhouses with a fully computerized system maintaining the amount of sunlight that enters, as well as the temperature at any given time. They also have laboratories that ensure high yields. On their peak seasons, they produce up to 1,500 dozens of roses per day.

Although we weren’t able to have a peek inside their greenhouses, we learned a lot about the 11 varieties of roses and the many challenges of growing them. Ms. Lizel Ardenio, one of the farm’s staff, was kind enough to entertain all our inquiries and showed us around.

Verdi View

Rare is the restaurant where you can order a delicious jam-packed dish of crispy pata for just P350. We were indeed very lucky to have had lunch at such a place. Verdi View, a restaurant along Emilio Aguinaldo Highway, specializes in Filipino dishes.

Don’t let the time of the day fool you, it was one of the coolest days of the year and the breeze never let us forget that we were well above sea level. But the climate up there only made dishes like bulalo all the more enticing.

Although we savored every spoonful of our food, we were surprised to see that after we were all full, there were still some left. It just goes to show just how big their servings are.
